Draughty doors and windows

Well, it has been a while since I last blogged, too long actually. So much has happened we moved as a family from Sussex to the South of Scotland close to Biggar and Lanark in June 2019 and I have continued to build up my business slowly as we had plenty to do in our new house to become a home. I no longer have The Nook but now I have my Sewing Parlour. My Sewing Parlour has plenty of natural light coming in and I am able to design and make my home décor furnishings.

The winter of 20/21 has been a long one. Where we live it snowed only last week. Coldest temperature of this year was -13C at 4:30pm. Someone in my village asked if I was able to make draught excluders. Two were made for him exactly to the length required for his door thresholds. That then got me making and selling a lot of excluders especially as the weather has been so cold across the UK this year. My draught excluders can be made to any length within reason. The largest so far has been 3 metres long for a Yoga studio up against the garage door. There's me thinking just your standard door width or Bi-Fold door width when out of the blue a special request comes in. Another client wanted a draught excluder 2.4 metres long with ties. Why with ties? Well this was to be tied to the fire guard to protect her grandchild from falling onto the hearth. Another client asked me to make some excluders to sit on the ledge of her sash windows between the two window panes. How to do it as I live in Scotland and the client is in London. Paper templates cut out by the client and then sent to me to then cut out the material and make into excluders. I was also able to cut out small holes for the latches I weighted the draught excluder for a snug fit.

As we move from winter into spring summer my next project is outdoor living.

Thanks for reading.

Rosalind
