Outdoor Living

Updated: Mar 24, 2022

As we move from spring into summer I have branched out into outdoor home decor. The thought of having friends and family around in the back garden is something we all look forward to. So, I decided to start making very large outdoor cushions. I have also made my own cushion pads so I can fill them with as much wadding as I want.

My design brief was to create a large cushion big enough for children and adults to sit on comfortably. The square cushions are at least 65x65cm the round cushions diameter is about 80cm. The material had to be water resistant so if they were left outside overnight they could be wiped dry the following day. Also, what do you do with a large cushion when not in use? I sourced some curtain grommets and have sewn them into the corner of the cushion. This now means the cushion can be hung up and kept out of the way in the summerhouse or garden shed.

What has been the result? Despite the inclement British weather 11 were ordered for a private nursery school. The little ones at story time sit on them. A large blue cushion was ordered and now sits on a large sunny window ledge in a snug. Another couple were ordered as the grandchildren needed somewhere to sit.

Well let's hope for an amazing July and August hot and sunny for those staycations or just chilling in the back garden with your favourite drink and a good book. Until next time Rosalind.
